Programming and writing share some traits. Some are obvious: software is built with commands, parameters and variable names and values, which are often expressed as words. Although graphical interfaces are pretty much everywhere these days, we still refer to software building as writing code. Conversely, authors, especially speculative fiction genre ones, are builders: world builders. A language (sometimes more than one) must be used to create either an application or a novel.
Deeper still, both professionals benefit from planning before they start writing. The more complex, or long, the task at hands, the more they rely on techniques for dividing the whole into manageable pieces. Even debugging has its wordsmithing similar, in the search for the perfect word, sentence or scene that will render a flawless masterpiece (or at least one that will compile without warnings).
Code is poetry. Fiction is more logical than life. Yes, fantasy fiction too.
